After running a private dental practice in my native UK for 17 years, I moved to Florida with my wife and children in 2003 to join friends Don Wherrett and Gary Leventhal as the third partner in Contempo Vacation Homes. I’m thrilled to be a part of this inaugural event benefiting Give Kids The World Village. When it’s done, I’ll have a fantastic story to tell — 32 stories, to be exact.
As a former rugby player, physical challenge is not new to me. I have not yet tackled a rappel of this height however, and I look forward to the challenge. On February 9, I’ll be rappelling down the side of the Hyatt Regency Hotel. With other fundraisers, I’ll descend 428 feet straight down to help make dreams come true for critically ill kids.
It seems crazy, but it’s nothing compared to what the kids at Give Kids The World Village face. Their lives are dominated by hospital stays and medical procedures. They miss out on school activities, sports, and time with friends.
Give Kids The World helps them reclaim that time.
It’s a home-away-from-home for wish children visiting Orlando’s world-famous attractions. Children and their families stay at the nonprofit, 84-acre, storybook resort and are treated to weeklong, dream vacations. No child is turned away, and no family ever pays a dime. Last year, Give Kids The World hosted nearly 8,000 families!
The Village matters to me because it creates happiness and hope for children and families who need it most. I can’t think of a better reason to go Over The Edge.
But I need your help. To make a tax-deductible donation, click the big green "Donate Now" button. I am participating along with my co-workers: Sam Longster, Nikki Downer, and Dawn Sabato as "Team Contempo". Any questions, just ask me.
Thank you from me and the kids you’re going to help!
