I’ve accepted the challenge to raise money for Give Kids The World Village.
Every day, this nonprofit “storybook” resort provides cost-free vacations to children and families battling critical illnesses, and I believe those vacations create happiness and hope when these families need it most.
When a child is diagnosed with a critical illness, their family’s life become full of unexpected and unpredictable challenges, from doctor appointments to hospital stays and medical treatments.
But for one week, children and families have the chance to laugh, play and simply spend time together – both at the Village and at Central Florida’s world-class theme parks and attractions.
Give Kids The World Village becomes a home-away-from-home during their once-in-a-lifetime trip and it doesn’t cost the families a cent.
I’ve joined them in their mission by taking on the Challenge for Hope. I’ll be raising money and racing with my fellow Challengers as we all walk, run, roll or stroll through the Village. But I can’t do it without your help.
This year its personal. I have a Niece whose son Griffin has MPS type 3A and is slowly dying.
Griffins lives up north and his mother struggles with Insurance companies for basic needs such as wheel chairs, ramps and therapies.
Its hard to watch your child slowly fade away, I dont even want to imagine. GKTW can help families like Griffin's forget all that struggle for 1 week and just enjoy what time they have together. Join Me in this event, it will be good for you and for many families too.
Here is a portion of a letter Kerri recently wrote to the horse therapy place Griffin currently goes to that insurance will not pay for.
"Griffin seems to be one of the unlucky children where the disease progresses fast. If there is one good thing about Griffins disorder it is he does not know he is dying. He doesn't know he is sick. He knows he used to be able to walk but his legs no longer have the strength to hold him up. He smiles anyway. He laughs all the time. My son loves life, Mickey Mouse, the beach and stories read with funny voices"
Please check out a charity Kerri created called "Better Life for Griffin". It helps other children afford these therapies that insurance wont cover. Find out more about MPS and how you can help.
Thank you for supporting me and the brave children who visit Give Kids The World.
