Hi all! I’m thrilled to be a part of this inaugural event benefiting Give Kids The World Village.
On February 9, I’ll be rappelling down the side of the Hyatt Regency Hotel. With other fundraisers, I’ll descend 428 feet straight down to help make dreams come true for critically ill kids.
It seems crazy, but it’s nothing compared to what the kids at Give Kids The World Village face. Their lives are dominated by hospital stays and medical procedures. They miss out on school activities, sports, and time with friends. Give Kids The World helps them reclaim that time.
It’s a home-away-from-home for wish children visiting Orlando’s world-famous attractions. Children and their families stay at the nonprofit, 84-acre, storybook resort and are treated to weeklong, dream vacations. No child is turned away, and no family ever pays a dime. Last year, Give Kids The World hosted nearly 8,000 families!
The Village matters to me because it creates happiness and hope for children and families who need it most. The Village holds a special place in my family's heart; 22 years ago, we were one of the many families that has been fortunate to stay at the Village. For those that don't know, I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at the age of 3 and underwent a little over two years of treatment before being declared in remission. During those two years, I was unable to participate in many activities that a preschool aged child would typically experience; think about not being able to go swimming, play in a sandbox, be around other children! However, thanks to the Give Kids The World and the Make A Wish Foundation, my childhood dream came true. My family was able to spend a week in Orlando visiting all of the parks, even getting behind the scenes sneaks too, even if some were terrifying to a 5-year-old (here's looking at you ET)! While I don't remember much about the visit, I do remember having a great time being a typical 5-year-old and not worrying about treatments or doctors' appointments for that week. I am honored to participate in this event and help Give Kids The World continue to offer this same opportunity to families for many years to come!

Thank you from me and the kids you’re going to help!
