Things never seem as difficult until you're in the thick of it. That's probably why I signed up to rappel down the side of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Orlando without as much as batting an eye. 428 ft doesn't seem that high when you're sitting on the couch.
At the same time though, families with kids who have life-threatening illnesses are truly right in the thick of it and experiencing every difficulty, every day, at full strength.
And that is the real reason I registered. Because if those kids can tackle every challenge thrown at them, I can descend 32 stories down the side of a building.
Give Kids the World is a place where happiness inspires hope - giving kids a week of "yes"s when their lives are usually dominated by "no"s. Hospital stays and medical procedures are replaced by a new normal of dreams and wishes coming true. Last year alone, Give Kids the World hosted nearly 8,000 families - none of which ever paid a dime.
I have volunteered there for over six years, clocking in almost 1,000 hours of service - usually in their Entertainment programs as a pirate. So if you want to see me rappel down 428 ft, please help me in supporting this organization and making it possible for them to continue to put smiles on kids' faces. To make a tax-deductible donation, simply scroll up and click on the green box to the right that says "Donate Now." Anyone who gives $50 or more will receive a personal shoutout on social media from the top of the building!
Thank you so much from me and the kids you’re going to help!
