Hi! My name is Vera and I’ve accepted the challenge to raise money for Give Kids the World Village. This nonprofit organization is close to my heart because they create happiness and hope for children with life-threatening illnesses. I have been an Angel Volunteer for the past 4 years. Even though I live in Connecticut I still find a way to get to the village to volunteer at least one week per year and I participate in multiple fundraisers throughout the year. There is no better feeling in the world then volunteering and seeing smiles on all of the children's faces everywhere you are at Give Kids The World.
Every year 27,000 children in the United States are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Suddenly, their lives are full of unexpected and unpredictable challenges, including doctor appointments, hospital stays, tests and treatments. Through these trials, kids can miss out on school activities, playing sports, seeing their friends and even enjoying time with their families.
While it can never replace the lost holidays or missed parties, a wish can provide an opportunity to create hope for brave kids facing life-threatening illnesses. Half of all of these children, with the support of a wish-granting organization, choose to visit Central Florida for its world-famous theme parks and other attractions. Give Kids The World Village becomes a home-away-from-home for these families during their once-in-a-lifetime trip.
The Village is always up for the challenge of creating happiness and hope for the families we serve. I’ve joined them in their mission by taking on the Challenge for Hope.
I’ll race with my fellow Challengers as we all walk, run, roll or stroll. But I can’t do that without your help.
Thank you from me and the kids you’re going to help!
